Terry Garstasio rides again
In which we see a familiar face and ride off into the uncanny valley.
Hello and welcome to this edition of Jam Sandwich, where we put the fun in your bun, if you lettuce.
I’m kidding! We don’t have a slogan! But seriously, thank you for subscribing. I appreciate you.
You know who else appreciates you?
This guy:

That’s Troy. Or maybe it’s Terry.
The slightly uncanny Trey Anastasio lookalike, if we can even call him that, has been spotted at shows up and down the east coast for years, apparently, but is making the rounds again thanks to the group shot that popped up on Reddit earlier this week — Love how Trey is always happy to take pictures! — which then spread to a Facebook group or two.
Best description I saw: “He looks like Trey drawn from memory.” Someone else added it would be like if you had to draw Trey without ever lifting up the pen.
I (very briefly!) attempted to track him down to hear his side of the encounters, but so far, no dice. If you know him — reach out. I want to hear his first-hand perspective.
But folks here and there shared photos and tales of their own meetings with the guy, who, to his total credit, seems to have embraced his face and leaned into the role as Trey’s doppelgänger. Which is good! Because, whether he knows it or not, he’s going into summer tour a newly minted Phish celebrity.
Say hi if you see him. Just don’t be weird.
The Shakedown
Shalom: Gabe Friedman explains why so many Jews love the band Phish: “Phish fandom — and for many, the specific experience of attending Phish concerts — filled a spiritual void that began to open up in that younger Jewish generation.” Related: AvenuMalkenuDesigns is selling a “Hebrew donut pattern” lot shirt on Etsy.
In the mail: Dry Goods’ shipped my Ghosts of the Forest 2-LP Vinyl earlier this week. Looking forward to putting that on and hearing the crackles.
Welker in Brooklyn: David Welker relocated his art studio to Brooklyn and is holding an open house on Saturday, June 1st, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. ET. There will be a “multitude of new pieces” for sale, as well as old art on display. No camping. Instead, there will be a sign-in sheet that Friday from 12 to 6 p.m. ET; and on Saturday from 8 a.m. ET until doors. Welker Studios is located at 60 Broadway. Join the Facebook group for more.
Fish for grabs: Three of the Joey Feldman’s original concepts that inspired his “Fire & Ice” collaboration with Jim Pollock are up for grabs in the Phish Ink Facebook group. Each is a 1/1 OG, signed by both artists. $1200 each, money goes to the artists.

Temperature rising: Canadian record producer Bob Ezrin talks with CBC’s Tom Power about his wild career, but not about Big Boat, and certainly not about why he made Trey leave “Mercury” on the cutting room floor.
JRAD on demand: You can now stream JRAD shows on Spotify and Apple Music.
Analyze Phish, con’t: The hosts of the God Ween Evan podcast got Evan to like Ween. Now, they’re trying to turn him on to Phish.
Prime threads: 2 Chainz wore a Grateful Dead shirt to his concert and posted a photo to his Instagram. Why not! Commenter: “Setlist be like: Feds Watching>Iko Iko>Fire on the Mountain> It’s a Vibe.” Looks like he bought it on Amazon for $24.
Blast from the past: A KPIX engineer accidentally dosed himself while repairing a vintage analog synthesizer that once belonged to the late electronic music pioneer and friend to Owsley Stanley, Don Buchla, and was, naturally, coated in crystalized LSD.
